2010 Salvage-A-Drum Contest Entry

These are a few pictures of my entry in the 2010 Salvage-A-Drum Contest. This drum started out as crushed 13″ rack tom from an old, very low budget, import kit. The concept of the contest was to take any drum and “salvage” it into something better to give it new life. What is not pictured is all the tedious work of re-laminating the shell’s plies, truing the edges, getting the shell back closer to being round or my process of building the custom hardware or wooden hoops. All of the work was done in-house by myself: shell re-construction, re-ring installation, custom lugs, custom wooden hoops, custom graphics, hardware powder coating, etc. I didn’t win the contest but I wonderful time on the journey! 🙂
